But lying\nlike a couch potato in front of the television doesn\u2019t lower blood pressure at\nall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>The easiest way to de-stress is to do some deep breathing exercises.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They recommend around half an hour a day, but actually, even a few minutes help. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What a\nbargain! It doesn\u2019t cost anything and we all do it anyway.&nbsp; Even better, we don\u2019t need a special place or\nfancy equipment. In fact, if you catch a taxi, bus or train home, you can do it\non the way and be all nice and relaxed and de-stressed by the time you get\nthere. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are several different methods of breathing to relax but the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stress.org\/take-a-deep-breath \">American Institute of Stress<\/a> recommends a technique called the \u201cQuieting Response\u201d. It only takes 6 seconds to do and apparently it works like a bomb. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>First, you\nsmile inwardly, with your mouth and your eyes. We all know the benefits of\nsmiling outwardly, but this is something different, it somehow makes you relax.\n(<em>Go on; try it quickly while you are\nreading this.<\/em>) Then they tell you to imagine holes in the soles of your\nfeet. As you breathe in (a nice deep breath) you visualize hot air flowing up\nthrough your body to your lungs. You relax each part of your body as the hot\nair hits. Then you breathe it all out again, imagining it flowing down, down,\ndown\u2014back out through the holes in your soles!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pretty darn\neasy, right? I\u2019m going to try it next time I\u2019m stressed. Kids get stressed too\nyou know!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>True story,\noften when we are stressed we tense up and it takes a concerted physical act to\nrelease that tension.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.sibo.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Daisy-half.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-884\" width=\"235\" height=\"403\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.sibo.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Daisy-half.jpg 583w, https:\/\/blog.sibo.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Daisy-half-175x300.jpg 175w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 235px) 85vw, 235px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Did you know?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>If you opened up your lungs flat, they would\ncover an entire tennis court?<\/li><li>In people, the left lung is smaller than the\nright lung. Why? So that there\u2018s space for your heart.<\/li><li>The average person breathes around 27 litres of\nair a minute.<\/li><li>Children laugh about 300 times a day whereas\nadults only laugh around 15 times.
