Squished\nbetween Christmas and Easter we have Valentine\u2019s Day, where the shops are full\nof sappy hearts and flowers, enticing people, who have barely recovered from\nthe holiday season, to once again buy, buy, buy! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Valentine\u2019s\nDay specials on outfits, cards, CD\u2019s, food, holidays, chocolates and even appliances.\nReally! Who needs a nice new vacuum cleaner for Valentine\u2019s Day?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I know\nsomebody who says if you play the Lotto,\nyou are paying stupidity taxes<\/em>. I think caving in to Valentine\u2019s Day demands\nis probably on a par with that. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s a vastly\noverrated day\u2014husbands, boyfriends and partners get into trouble if they don\u2019t\nshower their loved ones with stuff. Not being taken out to dinner can cause a\nmeltdown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is all the hype for? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

To loudly\nproclaim: I love you. I appreciate you. You are my most favourite person in the\nwhole wide world. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shouldn\u2019t you\nsay that every day? Not just once a year? <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2018s not even\na proper holiday\u2014it\u2019s just a commercial day. And yet it has become an occasion\nwhere people get upset if their significant other doesn\u2019t acknowledge it, signifying\ntheir relationship and the depth of their feelings\u2014so that other people can see\ntoo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s also a\nwaste of money day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shops rob\nrelatively sane people of money for ridiculous things. Anything adorned with a\nheart is a sitting duck. Flowers fly out of their buckets. Restaurants are\nteeming.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

People\npropose. People compare. And some people die slowly inside from lack of real\nlove.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many folk desperately\nhope for a card or a gift. But the day ends and they have a large hole in their\nown heart, feeling unappreciated, unloved and uncared for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here\u2019s a\nfunny story. A friend\u2019s husband gave her a gold bracelet for Valentine\u2019s Day.\nShe was very surprised; they had never celebrated the 14th<\/sup> of\nFebruary in all their ten years of marriage. She started to dig a little deeper\nand discovered that her husband was having an affair. His mistress had hinted\nthat she wanted jewellery for the occasion, and feeling guilty, he had bought\nsomething for his wife as well. Bummer! It backfired on him horribly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you love\nsomebody, show them every day\u2014not just once a year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Do the little\nthings that count. Flowers, random acts of kindness, gentle words. Live your\nlove. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

All the time!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
