Nobody wanted to talk to me or play a game with me and I was generally feeling miserable and heavy hearted.<\/p>\n<p>Then I switched on the radio\u2026 \u00a0a song that I really like was playing.<\/p>\n<p><em>Macarena <\/em>by Los Del Rio. It\u2019s not a new song \u2013 in fact it came out in 1993 \u2013 long before I was even born \u2013 but it\u2019s one of those timeless songs that you can\u2019t help singing along to. Even if you don\u2019t know the words properly.<\/p>\n<p>Immediately my insides lifted and my heart felt lighter. Really, it did.<\/p>\n<p>Turned it up so loud that mum complained that she could not hear herself think.<\/p>\n<p>I sang loudly and did a little dance around the kitchen \u2013 probably doing all the wrong moves but I did not care and anyway, there was nobody to see me.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>I felt immediately better.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>I went off and found something to do and just listened to the music in the background (by this time I had turned it down a bit). \u00a0I like to listen to the words of songs too \u2013 but often these days they are just sappy and repeat themselves over and over.<\/p>\n<p>Decided to do a bit of research about how music makes you happy and was amazed to find out that it has lots of other benefits too.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Listening to classical music can lower your blood pressure.<\/li>\n<li>Surgeons listen to music when they are doing surgery \u2013 it makes them more calm and relaxed.<\/li>\n<li>Listening to music may help the body defend itself from disease and infection \u2013 apparently it raises the level of natural killer cells.<\/li>\n<li>Listening to soothing music can help a person sleep &#8211; it soothes fractious babies too.<\/li>\n<li>Singing can improve your breathing, which can help people who have lung problems.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>And how\u2019s this\u2026 Plants not only enjoy being talked to but they like listening to music too!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Okay \u2013 so they don\u2019t exactly listen but apparently pressure from the sound waves creates vibrations that can be picked up by plants that is beneficial to them.
