Recently we got a letter from Rand Water saying that it will be reducing its supply by 15% in order to try and conserve water.<\/p>\n

This is means that we all have to make a plan to save more water.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

I know many of us already save water and think that there is not much more that we can do, but if you think carefully about it, there probably is.<\/p>\n

Here are some reminders of the easy ways to save.<\/p>\n

Shower for 5 minutes or less.<\/strong> No more of those long hot soaks in the bath where the water sloshes around your chin and you pull the plug out every so often to let some water out so that you can top it up with nice hot water. Nope! A short shower is the way to go. Anyway \u2013 its summer \u00a0now so that is not really a problem \u2013 is it?<\/p>\n

Wash your dishes in a basin with the plug in<\/strong>. If you have a dishwasher – don\u2019t rinse them with running water either. Use a basin of water rather. Yes, I know it\u2019s a pain \u2013 but do it anyway please.<\/p>\n

Wash your car with a bucket.<\/strong> Many South Africans are obsessed with having clean cars \u2013 I think that\u2019s so silly \u2013 I mean \u2013 they just get dirty again. Why bother \u2013 as long as you can see through the windows \u2013 that\u2019s all that counts.<\/p>\n

Check that your taps are not dripping or leaking.<\/strong>\u00a0 Kids can check and report to their parental agents. Remember to check the taps outside too.<\/p>\n

If you are staying in a hotel \u2013 reuse your towel.<\/strong> Good heavens! It\u2019s not like you get a spiffy clean towel at home every day is it? so don\u2019t expect one in a hotel either.<\/p>\n

Turn the tap off when you brush your teeth.<\/strong> Yes really \u2013 it\u2019s not hard to do \u2013 it\u2019s just a mind-set.<\/p>\n

Same goes for when you wash your hands<\/strong>. Run a little bit of water with the plug in.<\/p>\n

In fact \u2013 do an experiment \u2013 you know how I always like doing experiments. Waste a bit of water just once.\u00a0 Put the plug in but leave the tap running when you brush your teeth\u2026 you will be horrified at how much water you have been wasting every single day.<\/p>\n

Please people \u2013 lets save more water.<\/p>\n
