Well\npeople, <em>make time<\/em> because the only\nperson who will benefit is you. Journaling is awesome for many different\nreasons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For starters,\nit keeps you centred, helps identify your strengths and weaknesses and clears\nyour head. Once you\u2019ve written something down, you can let it go. It gives you\nan opportunity to reflect on your day, see what you were proud of or what you\ncould have done differently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But don\u2019t\nonly journal to talk about your day. Write down your dreams and aspirations and\nthen go back and visit them periodically to see how you are progressing. Are\nyou getting closer to your end goal?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBut I don\u2019t\nknow HOW to journal,\u201d I hear you mutter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s not hard.\nYou don\u2019t need a fancy book to write in \u2013 you can happily use a cheap school\nexercise book. <em>It\u2019s best to use a book\nand not your computer or phone because then you can\u2019t get side-tracked checking\nsocial media or answering e-mails quickly.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Find a\nprivate place that is free from distractions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Set a time\nlimit \u2013 start with 5 minutes if you are just beginning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Describe an experience<\/strong> \u2013 write down\nwhat happened that day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Write affirmations<\/strong> e.g.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>I\u2019m a caring mother\/father\/grandmother. (Yes!\nJournaling is for everybody.)<\/li><li>I\u2019m a fabulous cook.<\/li><li>I\u2019ve maintained my body weight.<\/li><li>I\u2019m a great teacher (or whatever).<\/li><li>I passed my test well.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Adopt an attitude of gratitude<\/strong> \u2013 list a\nfew things that you are thankful for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Do a critical self-analysis.<\/strong> Who am I?\nWhat did I do right or wrong? What could I do better? What\u2019s holding me back in\nlife? How do I fix this?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Obviously,\nyou don\u2019t have to do all of these every day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-background has-very-dark-gray-color has-light-green-cyan-background-color\"><strong>Have fun in the process:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Maintain a log of successes.<\/li><li>Start a journal of selfies.<\/li><li>Write with your non-dominant hand.<\/li><li>Keep a nature diary<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Write first\nthing in the morning or last thing at night (or both). You certainly don\u2019t need\nto be a great writer to benefit from writing down your thoughts and feelings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Remember,\nyour journal is private \u2013 for your eyes only \u2013 be honest with yourself.
